2 boys from France, who wanted to travel somewhere in Africa for the first time; Google Maps > Kampala > 4×4 rental > Nature Adventure website > Moses’s what’ app number and a few days later with strong help from Moses for all the legal papers to provide for traveling, Entebbe here we are. We booked a powerful and perfectly maintained land cruiser with rooftop tent and guide for 20 days.

Whether you want to include just a taster of self-driving on your trip to Uganda, or embark on an epic drive along the western route, there are plenty of choices to consider.

Emma helped us to see all the animals in the park when we went on safari after gorilla trekking. We were sad to leave when the time was up and we had the best time. The drives between places did not seem long because we were viewing animals along the way. If I asked Emma to help me find something or exchange money he was always willing to help and took us to where we could get the best exchange rates. The only thing I would change is I would have brought some $100 dollar bills and some smaller ones ($5 and $10). I brought all $20 and there were 2-3 times I could have used different denominations for tipping or purchasing souvenirs.

We visited Kibale Forest and the main reason for our visit was to see chimpanzees, we were certainly not disappointed. The experience was outstanding and the quality of the guiding was second to none. As someone who has visited all of Uganda’s National Parks, I would say that seeing the chimpanzees in Kibale was up there with the best experiences in the country and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

We did the trek on a clear sunny day, which apparently helped with the viewing of Chimpanzees. We were lucky to find 3 of them within 5 minutes (having driven for 10 minutes away from the starting point, due to the chimps being some distance away). We then tracked them for about 30 minutes and found the rest of the group, around 25 individuals, whom we were able to get close to and follow for a good period of time. The walk is through fairly thick forest and quite hilly in places. We were with a mixed group, but the guide set a pace appropriate for all.

The next day we drove 5-6 hrs. to the Nkuringo Bwindi Gorilla Lodge (excellent lodge and our favorite one that we stayed at). We stopped for lunch at bird nest on Lake Bunyonyi with fantastic views (our second favorite place to stay). The food the whole trip was spectacular. The gorilla trek was a once in a lifetime experience but I would do it again in a heartbeat. I felt safe the whole trip and at ease with Eddie. We had our own safari vehicle and did not have to worry about other people’s agendas. We could do or make the trip what we wanted.

Emma has been the most incredible guide; basically, he knows everybody in the country, and everybody knows him; he will book all the restaurants and camps you need while you just enjoy your time, beg the landlords for not overcharging, drive you through the National Parks to the places where he knows the animals are, so you can focus on what you came for.

Should you desire precise data on wildlife, Emma knows everything there is to know about all the animals you will meet. He will explain as many times as necessary the options you have for your leisure depending on what you can afford, and most of all: he will magnify your journey with his humor and his laugh! Thank you Nature Adventure for entertaining us as you did! (Yes, they also run a tour-operator business called Nature Adventure Africa Safari Ltd)

I so highly recommend 4×4 Car Hire Uganda and Emma to help set up your trip to Africa in this area. All accommodations were great and exceeded our expectations. All meals were great. We did pay for drinks during the meals but otherwise everything was all inclusive. The people were friendly and we saw so much.
