I and 2 other travelers rented a 4×4 Toyota Land Cruiser TX with a rooftop tent with camping gear from 4×4 Car Hire Uganda for our 14-day trip through Murchison Falls, Kidepo, the Karamajong area to Mount Elgon and White-Water Rafting in Jinja.

The 3 of us fit in the rooftop tent. We enjoyed the car; it was reliable and the perfect size for the 3 of us and luggage. The Land Cruiser was perfectly suited for visiting the most remote areas, where a 4×4 drive is essential, we could easily road trip around the ring road for the 14 days we were in Uganda.

We went in November so we’re expecting lots of different weather. They picked us up at the airport at 6am, an hour earlier, so we didn’t have to wait until the company opened in the morning. They gave us some information regarding hotpots, gas stations and weather reports.

Before we left, they provided information about traffic laws and road signs. They set us up very quickly with our rental once we got to their office, and we’re on our way within 30 minutes. The car was great on the road as well. We hit a number of thunder squall and both the car and the tent held up better than expected each time.

In fact, multiple times during the road trip we mentioned to each other that we were so happy we went with this option as opposed to a rental van, because it was so much more fun and authentic to be traveling with the roof tent, and the car worked perfectly in the muddy weather. Both were spacious enough for the three of us and all of our bags to fit comfortably too.

Rooftop tents provide their owners with a quick and easy way to set up camp almost anywhere. This makes them great for people who like to camp in places were setting a traditional tent up might not be possible. The car was highly reliable and able to get us wherever we desired and the tent camper on the top was fun and easy to set up. The roof tent was convenient and comfortable; it was amazing, experienced great amount of freedom.

The tent set up was not only incredibly comfortable for all 3 of us, but also the fastest and easiest set up and break down we have ever experienced, allowing maximum time to enjoy other facets of our adventure. The equipment provided (all cooking gear, hammocks, sleeping bags, cooler, head lamps, a map, local cell phone, and more that I’m sure I am forgetting) made it easy for us to have such a wonderfully rich experience

The staffs were friendly and professional; not only does Moses answer quickly, he offers you advice on what to do and helps you out with all technicalities of the country and the next country you would visit (Covid measures, where to test, etc). It is this organization that has made our affordable yet wonderful trip possible in Uganda, thank you so much for all of it.

When we returned to the rental company at the end of the trip, the agent took us to the airport immediately and dropped us off. He made it extremely easy for us the entire time. We really recommend using this company 4×4 Car Hire Uganda and using a car with a rooftop tent if you’re deciding between multiple companies especially if you are adventurous and looking for a more authentic experience that is cheaper than buying a newer, expensive 4×4 option from another company.
